Founded in 2010 by violinists Lisa Stewart and Myee Clohessy, violist Stefan Duwe and cellist Anna Martin-Scrase, the Acacia Quartet has quickly won great respect for their versatile and inventive programs which often couple established repertoire with the unorthodox.
Acacia is well known to the Bellingen Fine Music Festival audience, as they have been part of the last four Festivals. This year they will again perform in the ‘Youth and Exuberance’ concert on Friday night as well as perform on Saturday with renown guitarist Karin Schaupp.
The quartet is active and daring; they toured interstate with guest member violist Emil Cantor, Stefan’s past teacher in Germany to collaborate in ‘two viola’ quintets, playing Mozart (K515), the seldom-heard Phantasy Quintet by Vaugh Williams and a new composition by Lyle Chan.
The Acacia quartet will also conduct two Festival workshops: one for primary school students and a special one with the string section of the Bellingen Youth Orchestra. Whether you play yourself or not, this is a rare opportunity for students and adults to observe how string players prepare for performance. It certainly will enhance your concert experience.
