Melbourne Guitar Quartet
‘The Melbourne Guitar Quartet are a brilliant addition to Australia’s musical landscape. Their combination of innovative arrangements and superb ensemble playing is a joy to listen to. This is exactly what the classical guitar world needs.’ Slava Grigoryan 2010.
The guitar family is to the guitar world what the string quartet is to the string world. Repertoire creation for this trail-blazing genre is central to the Melbourne Guitar Quartet’s mission, an exciting development in the guitar-playing scene.
Accord Pour Deux
This unique ensemble has spanned the range of the horn repertoire, from baroque, on authentic instruments, to the contemporary. Gergely Malyusz has played with distinction in many European Countries, meeting up with Australian-based Lisa in Austria, where the ensemble was born. Together they have played and recorded extensively. Both are now resident in Armidale, where they teach brass at the New England Conservorium as well as taking private students throughout the region.
Orava String Quartet
This quartet, presented in association with Musica Viva Australia, comprises violinists Daniel Kowalik and Sylwia Waples, cellist Karol Kowalik and violist Thomas Chawne. A Rising Star Ensemble, they have already acquired an illustrious string of awards and final placements in competitions around the world. Finalists in the Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition in 2009, they completed a residency in Banff, toured internationally and participated in master classes with some of the world’s leading chamber ensembles.
Shelli Hulcombe with Deidre Rickards
Shelli Hulcombe’s short career is already scattered with superlatives. Graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium, she has sung leading roles in a variety of operas, performed with many of Australia’s symphony orchestras and sung with leading chamber ensembles, including Cantillation, The Australian Chamber Musicians and Ensemble Entourage. She has sung at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, in Taipei and on Thursday Island. We look forward to welcoming her to Bellingen, together with Deirdre Rickards, a favourite at the 2011 festival.
Bellingen Youth Orchestra
The Bellingen Youth Orchestra was formed in 2007 after a visit from Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Under the baton of founding Director, Ann Phelan, they have already provided a strong foundation for a number of developing musical careers as their graduates have gone on to higher music studies. With a strong support network of parents and local tutors, they are gaining a reputation beyond their region, with a tour planned for 2012.
